Program Overview

Your Summer in Florence program lasts 4 weeks (or up to 12 weeks) and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will choose from CIEE courses taught in-person at CIEE Florence. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Italian culture. Live and learn in Florence!

CIEE Florence offers housing options to ensure you're comfortable in your home away from home. All housing options are located in neighborhoods with convenient access to public transportation, shops, cafés, and eateries.

Program Highlights

  • Unmatched Flexibility: Spend 1, 2, or 3 consecutive 4-week sessions of your summer in the same host city or travel to different cities per session for increased mobility and cultural immersion.
  • Academic Courses: Choose from CIEE courses that align with your academic major.
  • Immersive Experiences: Participate in activities, excursions, study tours, and more that showcase your host city's culture, values, and local art, film, music, cuisine, and sports scenes.
  • Cultural Activities: Volunteer with members of the local community, join student clubs to socialize with your peers, and attend local workshops and events to get to know your host city.

Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Florence will open doors for you to explore Italy's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Learn to prepare a typical, seasonal Florentine dish
  • Visit smaller historical cities in Tuscany such as Lucca, Siena, or Volterra
  • Tour a traditional working vineyard and olive grove, including an in-depth description of wine and oil production, promotion, and distribution

Academics

CIEE Florence: Located in historic Palazzina Marchi on Piazza della Indipendenza, the Study Center is just steps from the University of Florence, Florence University of the Arts, San Lorenzo Market, the train station, and airport tram. Surrounded by cafés, restaurants, and local favorites, the Study Center features an architecturally unique octagonal studio commissioned by American sculptor Horatio Greenough, filled with natural light from every angle.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
