Program Overview

Summer at ISI Perugia - The Umbra Institute provides an exciting opportunity to take courses in Italian Language and Culture and enjoy all that this unique region of Italy has to offer. 

The hilltop city of Perugia, located halfway between Rome and Florence, is a quintessential university town, offering scenic art and architecture and historical resonance at every turn. With Etruscan walls, cobblestoned streets, and medieval churches surrounding you, you’ll find yourself in a contemporary, bustling place with visible traces of the past. 

ISI Perugia -The Umbra Institute, located on Perugia’s main piazza, adjacent to the duomo, is the only year-round independent American institute based in Perugia. The Institute maximizes the resources of its surroundings, by infusing community engagement and experiential learning into all of its programming. 

 

LOOKING FOR THE FOOD STUDIES, INTENSIVE ITALIAN, OR UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI PERUGIA PROGRAMS? You're in the right spot! These options are now academic pathways through the ISI Perugia - The Umbra Institute program from Spring 2023.

All General Studies courses are taught in English. You don't need to speak Italian to enroll, but you are sure to improve your proficiency as you explore the city, interact with its residents and learn first-hand about the real Italy. 

If you are looking to level up your Italian language proficiency, you have the option to participate in a specialized 4 or 8-week language immersion academic pathway. 

  • This program offers a wide variety of courses- everything from art history and performing arts, to literature and food studies. You have the option to take one or two courses in Italian language and culture on the General Studies program. 
  • All General Studies courses are taught in English. You don’t need to speak Italian to enroll, but you are sure to improve your proficiency as you explore the city, interact with its residents and learn first-hand about the real Italy. (Session 1, 2, or 1&2)
  • If you're looking to level up your Italian language proficiency, you have the option to participate in a specialized 4-week (Session 3) or 8-week (Session 4) language immersion academic pathway.
  • This program offers a wide variety of courses – everything from art history and performing arts, to literature and political science. You have the option to take one or two courses in Italian language and culture on the General Studies program.
  • Perugia’s hilltop location serves as the ideal backdrop for your study - Rich in art, architecture, and historical significance, it is internationally recognized as a city of learning.

Summer Session 3 - One month Intensive Italian
Summer Session 4 - Two month Intensive Italian
