Program Description:
EA Logo Primary Education Abroad Grant

Each year the Education Abroad office awards many scholarships/grants to UA students who plan to study abroad.  Winners are chosen based on academic merit, financial need, community/campus involvement and the abroad program’s applicability to the student’s future or career goals.

As a scholarship recipient students are asked to contribute 3 stories to which documents the stories of UA students studying abroad. 

Applicants must:
  • currently be enrolled full-time at UA.
  • have submitted a UA Study Abroad application. 
  • plan to participate in a study abroad program in which they will receive academic credit.
  • plan to participate on one of the four approved study abroad programs. 
    • UA Faculty-Led Program
    • UA Affiliate Program
    • UA Exchange Program
    • UA Direct Enroll Program 
Application Requirements:
Complete the Education Abroad Scholarship which includes: 
  • Questions #1-9 - Biographical and program information
  • Question # 10 - Provide a statement of purpose. This statement can be uploaded or typed into the question box that is provided. The statement of purpose should be between 400-500 words. 
  • Verification of Information check off item.

Notification of Award: 
All students will be notified via email about the outcome of the scholarship award no later than two weeks after the close of the application. 

Award Amounts: 
General award amounts of $250 - $750 are given for Winter Interim, Spring Break or Summer programs. Award amounts of $500 - $1,250 are awarded for Semester long programs. 

Impact Awards:
The Education Abroad office will award a small amount of impact grants (larger than the general award amounts) for students who's criteria fits under the following: 
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • First generation college students
  • First-time abroad
  • Alabama residents
  • Underrepresented students in study abroad
  • Traveling to non-traditional locations
  • Non-traditional majors
  • Your commitment to study abroad, and supposed impact that this international experience will have in your life
If you are interested in being reviewed for an impact grant, make sure you speak about your experience with the above-mentioned criteria in your essay.  Impact award amounts are estimated to range between $750 - $2,000.
